The gardens "la Mortella” is a beautiful public park on the island of Ischia, just in the area of Forio d'Ischia, Zaro. The garden "the Mortella" was created by Mrs. Susan Walton, the wife of the late British composer Sir. William Walton.
In the garden there are collections of plants from different parts of the world, such as tree ferns from Australia and New Zealand, South Africa Proteas and Aloe, Yucca and Agave from Mexico, as well as magnolias, camellias, Bahuinias, palms, cycads, to name a few (these types of plants found in warm environment Ischia, an ideal climate to grow)

The name "la Mortella " comes from the Mediterranean Sea.
The gardens of the "La Mortella " in addition to being a beautiful place and heavenly, a walk to remember, is a cultural center during the year there are three different seasons devoted to chamber music, various youth orchestras, with symphony concerts.

The present exotic tropical gardens are renowned throughout Europe. The house was built alongside a volcanic hill and is open to the public lobby of the late composer Sir William archive containing old letters, memorabilia, manuscripts, photographs.
